suffragette costume

This year I dressed up as a suffragette with my friend and conceptual artist, Michelle. When I visited the National Women’s Party Suffrage Museum in D.C. earlier this month I was so inspired,  and decided to make it a Halloween costume! I knew Michelle would be game since her art involves a lot of feminist and political themes. Ordered the sash from Etsy, and Michelle and I worked on signage (with fringe!) one night in our studio last week. It was a lot of fun. Had this Mary Poppins song running through my head all day. Here were the kids’ costumes…

I talked a bit about their costumes in this post here, but here we are dressed up to go to our first Halloween party this past Saturday. Dot wouldn’t leave her Dot costume on, so I glued the candy dots to her clothes instead. HA!

Problem was, after two Halloween parties, her costume was destroyed. She eventually pulled off half the candy dots so I rummaged through the costume box and found this cute chick one from a Say Yes baby costume last year. Thank goodness she still fits in 6-12 month clothes as a 18 month old!

Here we are with a couple friends headed out trick or treating! Happy Halloween! What did you dress up as?
